Gareth Williams is a proud 20+ year Burlington resident who has lived with his wife in Brant Hills for the last 17 years.
Gareth has a strong record working on behalf of Burlington residents to build a safe, clean and sustainable future for our city. For over a decade, Gareth has played an active role with many local grassroots groups, including BurlingtonGreen, Burlington For Accessible Sustainable Transit, and the Halton Environmental Network.
In 2011, Gareth joined the City’s Sustainable Development Committee, where he served as a member for four years then as Chair for two years. In that role he worked with fellow committee members to push the City to set tougher sustainability standards for buildings, move towards a less pollution intensive transportation system, and set a goal of carbon neutrality for City operations.
Gareth ran for the position of City & Regional Councillor in the 2018 Municipal election and placed a strong second. During this experience he knocked on thousands of doors, talked to thousands of residents, and engaged in debate with fellow candidates. Prior to this experience Gareth volunteered on a number of campaigns at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal level. He is an experienced campaigner who is not afraid to put in the hard work required to win.
Gareth has demonstrated his personal commitment to making his lifestyle more sustainable by retrofitting his home to be more energy efficient, including investing in rooftop solar panels. He was also an early Electric Vehicle (EV) adopter and continues to work with the local chapter of the EV Society which works to promote EV adoption.
Gareth attended McMaster University and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science before going into his current profession in Information Technology, working for both Fortune 500 enterprises, small locally owned businesses and most recently in the higher education and law enforcement sectors.
Gareth grew up on a family-run dairy farm in nearby Flamborough. Gareth and his wife enjoy spending time outdoors, often hiking the Bruce Trail with their dog Misty, and enjoying time with his family, most of whom live in Burlington.
